Day 10 — You Are There
Psalm 139:7–10; Jeremiah 23:23–24
There are places where we feel especially alone.
It may be a hospital room after visitors have left, a quiet house at night, a difficult drive, or a season when no one seems to understand what we are carrying.
Yet there is no place where God is absent.
God is omnipresent. He is fully present everywhere at all times.
David asked, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?”
His answer was simple: nowhere.
If David went up to heaven, God was there. If he descended into the depths, God was there. If he traveled across the sea to its most distant shore, God’s hand would still lead and hold him.
God is not limited by distance, walls, borders, or darkness.
This does not mean God is the same thing as creation. God is not the mountains, oceans, trees, or stars. He made creation, rules over it, and remains distinct from it. Yet no part of creation exists outside His presence or sustaining power.
God said through Jeremiah, “Am I a God who is near…and not a God far off? Can a person hide himself in hiding places so that I do not see him?…Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?”
That truth is comforting—but it is also serious.
We cannot hide our pain from God, but neither can we hide our sin. The God who is present in our loneliest moments is also present when we choose disobedience and assume no one will know.
His presence means we are never unseen, but it also means we are always accountable to Him.
Yet God did not leave sinners without hope.
The eternal Son of God took on human flesh and came near to us in Jesus Christ. Jesus lived without sin, died in the place of sinners, and rose again. Everyone who repents and trusts in Him is forgiven and reconciled to God.
God is present everywhere, but He is present with His people in a special saving and covenant way through Christ and by the Holy Spirit. Those who belong to Christ do not need to fear God’s presence as condemned sinners. The Holy Spirit dwells within them, and Jesus promises never to leave His people.
We may not always feel God’s presence.
Feelings change. Circumstances can make Him seem distant. But His presence does not depend on our ability to sense it.
Wherever today takes you, God is present there—ruling, sustaining, seeing, and caring for His people.
For those who belong to Christ, His hand still leads, holds, and keeps them according to His wise providence.

- Where are you most tempted to feel forgotten or alone?
- How does God’s presence bring both comfort and accountability?
- How can you remember that God is near when you do not feel Him?
Prayer
Ever-present God, there is nowhere I can go beyond Your presence. You see me in joy, loneliness, temptation, and pain. Help me live honestly before You and trust that I am never forgotten. Thank You for coming near through Jesus and for giving Your Spirit to those who belong to Him. Lead, hold, and keep me wherever today takes me. Amen.
