John the Baptist understood both the greatness and the limits of his calling. He was sent by God, but he was not the Light. He could testify, call people to repentance, and point them toward Christ, but he could not regenerate a heart, forgive sin, or create spiritual life.
That distinction should give believers both humility and courage. We are not responsible to save anyone. We cannot argue someone into the kingdom, perform enough good works to regenerate them, or repent on their behalf. God gives life. But God has truly called us to bear witness.
Our good works matter because they display the transforming grace of God, but Christian witness cannot remain permanently wordless. People need to hear who Jesus is, why sinners need Him, what He accomplished through His death and resurrection, and the call to repent and believe.
