Day 4 — From Everlasting to Everlasting

Psalm 90:1–2; Revelation 1:8

Our lives are measured by time.

We count birthdays, mark anniversaries, watch seasons change, and organize our days by clocks and calendars. We remember what has already happened, live in the present, and wonder what the future will bring.

There was a time when each of us did not exist, and unless Christ returns first, our earthly lives will come to an end.

But God is eternal.

Moses wrote, “Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”

Before there were mountains, oceans, stars, or people, God already was. He had no beginning. There has never been a moment when He did not exist, and there will never be a moment when He ceases to be God.

God is not simply very old. He is not traveling through time toward an uncertain future as we are. Time is part of the creation He made, and it does not control Him.

Yet God is not distant from our lives. The eternal God acts within history. He hears prayer, keeps His promises, works out His purposes, and draws near to His people.

In Revelation, the Lord declares, “I am the Alpha and the Omega…who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Everything around us changes with time. Bodies age. Children grow. Relationships enter new seasons. Plans shift, possessions wear out, and entire generations come and go.

Yet God remains.

He is never rushed because time is running out. He is never surprised by what tomorrow brings. He does not forget promises He made long ago or become unable to fulfill them.

That does not mean waiting is easy for us. A few months can feel like years when we are hurting, uncertain, or praying for an answer. But the eternal God sees more than the small part of the story visible to us.

The Son of God did not begin at Bethlehem. He is eternal with the Father, and in love He took on human flesh to save sinners. Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose from the grave, and lives forever.

Everyone who repents and trusts in Him receives eternal life. Though our earthly bodies may die, Christ has conquered death, and He will raise His people to everlasting fellowship with God.

Our days are brief, but they are held by the God whose years have no end.

Prayer

Eternal God, You were God before the world began, and You will remain God forever. My life is brief, but every day is held in Your hands. Help me trust You when I cannot see what lies ahead. Thank You for sending Your eternal Son and for the everlasting life You give to all who trust in Him. Amen.
