James 3

James 3

James 3 – The Tongue, Teachers, and Wisdom from Above

This week at Warroad Community Church, Pastor Daren Mehl brought a powerful message from James 3, calling the body to a deeper awareness of the weight of our words and the kind of wisdom that shapes our lives. Opening with the sobering reminder that “not many should become teachers” (James 3:1), the sermon explored the seriousness of spiritual influence and the judgment that accompanies teaching God’s Word. Pastor Daren humbly reflected on the call to teach and the reverent responsibility that comes with it.

As the message unfolded, we were reminded that the tongue, though small, carries immense power—to bless or destroy. No man can tame it, but through the sanctifying work of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, our speech can be transformed into an instrument of grace. The Word challenges us to reflect: Do our words reflect a life yielded to Christ?

The sermon concluded with James’ call to discern between earthly and heavenly wisdom. While jealousy and selfish ambition produce disorder, the wisdom from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy, and bears good fruit. Pastor Daren encouraged us to be peacemakers who sow in righteousness by living out this wisdom in relationships and daily life.

This message is a timely reminder to be hungry for God’s truth, humble in our calling, and teachable in spirit. It challenges us to reflect Christ not only in what we say—but in how we live. Listen now to be equipped for faithful, Spirit-led speech.

James 2 Part 2 – Faith that Works

James 2 Part 2 – Faith that Works

In James 2 Part 2, Pastor Daren teaches that while faith alone saves, saving faith is never alone—it is always accompanied by works. He emphasizes that true faith, given by God, naturally produces good works as its fruit. Using James 2:14–26 and Ephesians 2:8–10, he contrasts living faith, which expresses itself in love and action, with dead faith, which has no deeds. Pastor Daren warns against claiming belief without obedience, referencing Matthew 7 to show that even those who do religious works without knowing Christ are not saved. He distinguishes between “dead works” (acts done apart from faith) and Spirit-led good works, highlighting that works do not earn salvation but reveal its authenticity. The sermon urges believers to serve others practically and sacrificially, especially within the church body, and to recognize that all good works are prepared by God for His glory. A living faith bears fruit; a lifeless faith is empty.

James 2 – Part 1

James 2 – Part 1

James 2 reminds us that true faith shows no favoritism. Pastor Daren challenges us to walk in mercy, live by the law of liberty, and love others as Christ loves us—without judgment, with humility.

Faith Through Trials – James 1

Faith Through Trials – James 1

Faith Through Trials | James 1
Pastor Daren Mehl – May 4, 2025

“Trials aren’t proof that we’re strong—they’re proof that God is good.”

In James 1, we learn that trials are not signs of God’s anger, but His loving discipline. They build endurance, expose sin, and form the righteousness of Christ in us—not by our strength, but through His grace.

Key Points:

“Consider it all joy” when trials come (James 1:2)

Trials sanctify us by testing our faith

Endurance leads to hope, and hope does not disappoint (Romans 5:3-5)

God writes His law on our hearts, not stone (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 10:16)

“We are His workmanship, created for good works” (Ephesians 2:10)

“Faith doesn’t just hear the Word—it submits to it, and lets it change us.”

The storms of life will come, but the house built on Christ will stand. You are not alone. God is with you, and He has placed you in His church to walk through the trials together.

Spiritual Warfare – The Battlefields

Spiritual Warfare – The Battlefields

“Spiritual Warfare: The Battlefields”
What if the greatest battles you’re facing aren’t external—but internal? What if the real war isn’t against people or politics, but against sin, pride, and lies in your own heart… and in the world?

Pastor Daren brings forward Ephesians 6, 2 Corinthians 10, Romans 7–8, and more to expose the truth: The battle is not against flesh and blood
+Jesus has already won the war!
+Our “weapons” are not carnal—they are truth, humility, and holiness.
+We fight for souls, not against people
+We are ambassadors of a Kingdom that has come
and declare the holiness and righteousness of Jesus as the only true hope.

JOY

JOY

During the Advent season, we celebrate the arrival of Jesus, the source of true and lasting joy. Tim Daniels shared a heartfelt message reminding us that real joy is found in Christ alone. Using the illustration of gift boxes representing what we love, he showed how all our earthly joys—family, peace, hobbies—must be rooted in Jesus to have true meaning. When Christ is at the center, every other love is enhanced and ordered rightly. This Christmas, as we reflect on the angel’s proclamation of “good news of great joy,” let’s embrace the fullness of joy found in our Savior.

The Church and Her Leader

The Church and Her Leader

Pastor Daren shared how Christ is the true leader of His church and how we, as His body, are called to walk in unity and love. Hebrews 13:17 reminds us to honor our leaders, but ultimately, it’s Christ who holds all things together. Our pastors guide us in humility, but Jesus is our shepherd. Pastor Daren challenged us to live out our calling with patience, gentleness, and love, reflecting the unique bond we have in the Spirit. Let’s remember that in Christ, we are one, and through Him, we are empowered to serve and love one another. #ChurchAndHerLeader #UnityInChrist
