Day 19 — Great Is Your Faithfulness
Lamentations 3:22–23; 1 John 1:9
“I promise.”
Those words can bring comfort, but even sincere people sometimes fail to follow through. They forget, circumstances change, or they cannot do what they intended.
But God is always faithful.
He remains true to His perfect character and keeps every promise He makes. He never forgets His Word or loses the power to fulfill it.
Lamentations celebrates that faithfulness in the middle of sorrow. Jerusalem had been devastated, and God’s people were suffering under judgment for their sin. Yet the writer remembered that God’s compassion had not ended:
“They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
The suffering was real. So was the hope.
God’s faithfulness does not mean life will be easy or that His warnings can be ignored. It means His Word is trustworthy—in both its promises and its warnings.
We see His faithfulness clearly in Jesus Christ.
God promised a Savior, and He kept that promise. The eternal Son of God became man, lived without sin, died in the place of sinners, and rose again. Everyone who, by God’s grace, turns from sin and trusts Jesus as Lord and Savior receives forgiveness and eternal life. Repentance and faith do not earn salvation; they flow from His gracious work in us.
For believers, God’s faithfulness also gives us hope when we fail.
First John 1:9 teaches that when we confess our sins, God is faithful and righteous to forgive and cleanse us. He does not overlook sin; our forgiveness rests on Christ’s saving work.
Confession is not earning salvation again. It is honestly turning from sin and returning to fellowship with our Father, trusting Christ’s finished work.
And when life hurts, we can bring Him our grief without pretending everything is fine. He has not promised to remove every hardship immediately, but He will never become less faithful.
Our feelings may change.
His character does not.
The God who was faithful yesterday remains faithful today.
Reflection
How does Jesus’ saving work show that God keeps His promises?
How can God’s faithfulness help you confess sin and trust Him during hardship?
Prayer
Faithful Father, thank You for keeping Your promises and sending Jesus to save sinners. Help me confess honestly, turn from sin, and trust Your Word when my feelings are unsettled. Remind me that Your compassion has not ended and Your faithfulness has not changed. Amen.
