John 1:12-13 protects us from two opposite errors: boasting in ourselves and becoming passive about obedience. Those who receive Christ and believe in His name truly become children of God, yet John immediately tells us that this new birth is “of God.” Salvation does not begin in ancestry, human strength, religious effort, or another person’s decision. God gives life.
Ephesians 2 gives the same order. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works; then, as God’s workmanship, we walk in the good works He prepared beforehand. Grace does not make holiness optional. Grace changes the reason we obey. We no longer work to become accepted; in Christ, we obey because we have been graciously received.

Reflect and Act: What act of love, service, generosity, reconciliation, holiness, or witness is before you today? Do it without using it to prove your worth. Receive your identity from Christ, then walk faithfully in what God has prepared.
Prayer: Father, thank You that salvation is Your gracious work. Make me humble in receiving grace and eager to obey from gratitude.
